Excelencia Tequilera de Jalisco: From Mexico to the rest of the world
Tequila Huizache is a homage to the Mexican region of Jalisco, which is famous for the manufacture of agave distillates and also where the roots of the company lie. The Huizache bush (Acacia farnesiana) is abundant in the dry landscape and has been traditionally used for medicinal purposes by the indigenous peoples of Mexico, who believe the plant to be holy. The name means ‘many thorns’ and is a symbol for the strength and resilience of the countryside and the people who live and work here.
Once the Spanish conquerors had recognised the value of the agave plant in the 16th century and introduced European knowledge about the art of distillation, the region – today a UNESCO world heritage site, incidentally – became the main producer of tequila, which was distributed from here to the rest of Mexico. In 1870, Tequila Herradura SA de CV was founded and, over time, developed to become one of the biggest brands. In the late 1990s, the sisters Luz Gabriela and María Elisa Romo de la Peña decided to sell their stakes in the company and take over the plantations. In 2003, they founded the Excelencia Tequilera de Jalisco and specialised in the production of 100% agave premium tequila. The top brand Tequila Huizache was introduced in 2005 and opened a new chapter in the success story, which spans six generations with almost 150 years of experience.
At the World Spirits Award, there was gold for Huizache Blanco, Huizache Reposado and Huizache Origen.

Euelsberger Brennerei: Production in the Eifel region
Owner and master distiller Stephan Thomé runs the 2017 start-up in Dingdorf. He converted the old calf shed on his parents’ farm into a distillery. The name of the business comes from the Euelsberg mountainside, where the farm has a traditional orchard with tall trees growing apples, pears, damsons, Mirabelle plums, greengage plums and walnuts. In 2023, the distillery was extended by a unique GIN SCHOOL containing over 300 botanicals.
They produce fruit brandies, spirits, liqueurs and different categories of gin. In the development phase the distiller played around with over 120 herbs in his aroma lab. From the shortlist of twelve varieties, three were chosen for the first batch. In 2020, they added Gin #4 EIFEL with botanicals from the immediate vicinity. In 2022, Gin #5 SUMMER with mandarin, lemon and pepper took up the inspiration of Gin #1 PEPPER & LEMON, and rounded it off with cocoa bean and coriander. Each gin has its own individual note, from spicy and fresh to floral and oriental. In 2023, the first SLOE GIN was created. The basis is Gin #4 EIFEL, in which handpicked sloes are soaked and macerated for at least six months.
The botanicals from their own fields and from around the world are carefully selected and are of the same highest quality as those used in top restaurants and in homeopathy. Many ingredients are harvested by hand on organic farms. Every stage is carried out by hand as well. After the careful filtering and filling process, the gin is matured over months in steel barrels.
At the World Spirits Award, the Master Class Distillery 2024 received gold for Euelsberger #5 Summer, Euelsberger #4 Eifel, Euelsberger #2 Fifteen Flowers and Euelsberger #1 Pepper & Lemon, and silver for Euelsberger Sloe Gin.

Georg Hemmeter – XUXU, Escorial, SILLA EL FUERTE
Georg Hemmeter – strawberry drinks with exceptional flavour guaranteed
The name Georg Hemmeter – a company of the Underberg Group – stands for innovative spirits, in particular the XUXU range. The fresh and fruity strawberry drink contains 66 percent fruit plus crystal-clear vodka, rounded off with a dash of lime. The harmony between the sweetness of the fruit and just 15% alcohol by volume is created using a special production method. XUXU Ten, the little luxury in a 250 ml aluminium bottle with only 10% alcohol by volume, is dressed to party – it is still relatively new to the market, yet is already at home in all the world’s top party venues.
XUXU can be served in so many different ways: chilled, neat, on crushed ice, as a dessert topping, with sparkling wine or with other mixers – XUXU tastes heavenly and offers fresh and fruity pleasure. Welcome to Berrydise!
Initially the absolute top star in Greece, XUXU is now also number 1 in Russia, and extremely popular in Turkey and Italy too.
XUXU Strawberry & Vodka Drink and XUXU Ten won Gold at the World Spirits Award 2014.

Family of Hounds – Sought and found
Andrea Frigerio and his English wife, Lina, live in Monaco with their two dogs, Spot and Magda, two wonderful additions to the family. Since they started taking the two for walks in town, they have made many new friends. Andrea and Lina used to be red wine drinkers, who spent their holidays in the wine hills of Italy and France. It was only in 2013, while visiting a country estate in England, that they discovered their love for a good G & T. This developed into a passion, and their discussions soon revolved around what it would be like to create their own gin.
They tasted intensively, discarded aromas they didn’t like, and extracted the aromas they did. Together with the master distiller in an old distillery in Piedmont, they created their recipe for the gin: juniper, lemon and orange peel, pink grapefruit, lavender, thyme, cardamom, ginger and coriander. The first three ingredients come from Italy, the rest from Asia. “The juniper is really loud, like a brightly lit disco floor, and the other botanicals dance around it. Together, they are like a lively, attention-seeking dog that can’t sit still.”
In the future, they are looking to establish a small family of spirits, from gin to vodka and from grappa to vermouth – unmistakable in taste, but accessible to everyone. The core of the philosophy is going out with good friends, enjoying a good meal and even better spirits. The first step has already been taken …
