Appleton Estate - Spirit of Jamaica
Im Herzen des tropischen Inselparadieses liegt Appleton Estate, ein Ort weit weg vom Alltäglichen, wo die Lebensqualität das Tempo angibt. Dazu gehört der begehrte Plantagenrum, der hier seit 1749 hergestellt wird. Der älteste auf Jamaika ansässige Betrieb, der bis heute ohne Unterbrechung bewirtschaftet, ist im Besitz des britischen Unternehmens J. Wray & Nephew Ltd.
Das Zuckerrohr für die Rumerzeugung stammt von 4.400 Hektar im fruchtbaren, von der Natur verwöhnten Tal von Nassau, durch das sich der Black River windet. Hier herrschen ideale Klimabedingungen für die Pflanzen, und auch die mineralreichen, vulkanischen Böden sind bestens für den Zuckerrohranbau geeignet. Jährlich können 216.000 Tonnen geerntet werden. Für die Gärung werden eigens auf dem Gut entwickelte Hefekulturen eingesetzt, destilliert wird in alten, zwiebelförmigen Kupferkesseln. In sieben großen Lagerhallen reifen 138.000 Fässer Rum, die Eichenfässer stammen aus der firmeneigenen Fassbinderei.
Den letzten Schliff erhalten die Rums durch die Hand des "Master Blenders". Seit 1997 liegt diese verantwortungsvolle Aufgabe in den Händen von Joy Spence, studierte Chemikerin und erste Frau in dieser Position. Sie wählt sorgfältig aus , welche Rums miteinander vermählt werden. Auf Trinkstärke herabgesetzt wird mit dem weichen Quellwasser des Black River.
Flaggschiff des Unternehmens und meistgetrunkener brauner Rum der Insel ist der "VX", der mindestens fünf bis zehn Jahre in kleinen Eichenfässern reift. Der weiche "Appleton Estate 21 years old" besteht aus edelsten gereiften Rums, die ihm seinen unverwechselbaren Charakter verleihen.

Appleton Estate - Spirit of Jamaica
In the heart of the tropical island paradise, there is Appleton Estate - a place far off the beaten track, where the quality of life determines the pace of live. The coveted plantation rum is part of this quality and has been produced here since 1749. The oldest business in Jamaica, which has been operating without interruption to this day, is now owned by the British company J. Wray & Nephew Ltd.
The sugar cane for the rum production comes from 4,400 hectares in the fertile Valley of Nassau, through which the Black River meanders. The climate is ideal for the plants, as are the rich volcanic soils. 216,000 tons are harvested per year. Special yeast cultures, developed on the estate, are used in the fermentation process; distillation takes place in old, onion-shaped copper pot stills. 138,000 barrels of rum age in seven huge storage halls; the oak barrels are made in the estate's own cooperage.
The rums receive the final touch from the hand of the master blender. This position involves a lot of responsibility and has been held by Joy Spence since 1997. Joy studied chemistry and is the first woman in this position. She takes great care in choosing which rums to combine. The rum is brought to drinkability by adding the soft spring water of the Black River.
The estate's flagship is the VX, Jamaica's most popular brown rum, aged for at least five to ten years in small oak barrels. The smooth Appleton Estate 21 Years Old is a blend of the finest aged rums that give it its distinct flavour.
The plantation rums impressed at the World-Spirits Award with the title of “Distillery of the Year”, the World-Spirits Award and classification as a “World-Class Distillery” in the rum category. Appleton 21 years was also awarded a double gold and named “Best in Category”.
